Birchbox Beauty Explorations

Ever heard of Birchbox?

It’s a monthly, or annual, subscription that sends you sample sizes of personalized beauty products.

So, you fill out a profile telling them a little about your beauty regimen, what sorts of products you tend to gravitate towards, colors you like, what your skin tone is plus other personal needs you may have, etc. Then, each month, a sweet little surprise arrives at your doorstep full of 5 new products for you to try!

I had heard of it from other friends and they all highly recommended the experience, so I am giving it a whirl this year!

So, here is my first Birchbox…

box 1

In it are these items:

  • Harvey Prince “Liquid Loofah” exfoliating body wash in Hello! fragrance
  • Key West Aloe Facial Cleanser, 30% Aloe
  • Mirenesse Mattfinity Lip Rouge
  • Whish Body Butter
  • When Travelmate Facial mask

A great first box full of great products to try, which I have, and now I am passing on this beauty information to you!

Here were the successes from this box…

I loved the Harvey Prince Liquid Loofah!

box 2

The scent was absolutely intoxicating with Sicilian lemon & Spanish mandarins. It woke my senses up on those early mornings & left my skin feeling cleansed and renewed. No sponge required with this stuff, just later up, and rinse!

Highly recommend!

I don’t mind telling you, when I first opened the Mattfinity Lip Rouge, I was scared.

box 3

Even Katie’s reaction was like, “Wow! That’s a bold one.”

But, I was determined to try it out, and I am glad that I did! It was a great shade of red with just enough pink to compliment my skin tone perfectly. With some light powder, a bit of blush, and mascara (no eyeliner), I was off!

box 4

Its tattoo-like quality stays with you all day. Just apply some chapstick or gloss over top as the stain is sort of drying.

I would recommend this product for special events or even everyday use if you don’t like to re-apply your lip color.

And finally, the Whish Body Butter.

box 5

So, so luxuriously moisturizing. It is aptly named and great for my dry elbows, feet, and legs during this cold winter snap.

Some people Stitch-Fix… I Birchbox!

Night of Fashion @ the Oscars

The Oscars.

A night of great fashion & the highest awards given to the acting community.

And I was watching every minute of it.

Well, almost.

I mean, come on! That is one long awards show!

But the one part I don’t miss is the Red Carpet. I love the energy of it, the “who are you wearing?”s heard above the mobs of fans and photographer clicks.

For those of you who missed it, here is who wins top honors… at least in my book.

You be the judge!

Reese Witherspoon wowed me in this black & white off-the-shoulder stunner with minimal makeup and gorgeous, demure curls.

Jennifer Lopez made jaws drop when she waltzed down the carpet in this glittering nude ballgown. The beading & detail really were exquisite.

This may be one of her best looks yet.

Best Actress winner Julianne Moore took my breath in this luscious white gown accented with emeralds.

She just glows in it! Her skin tone is so lovely & that low bun was perfection.

Emma Stone certainly wins for most unique color- chartreuse! I die!

Love the sleeves, the cinched waist, and the gorgeous beading. She was a knock-out & very old Hollywood.

And best classic black ensemble goes to Cate Blanchett, which in my mind, can do no wrong! I loved the simplicity of this look with the edgy fringe around the bust + statement making turquoise jewelry. She looked so statuesque.

And we can’t forget about the gentlemen. Especially when they look this dapper.

It comes as no surprise that I found him to be absolutely stunning on the Red Carpet…

But then again, I love him in almost anything!

Be still my heart…

And if anyone can pull the velvet jacket off, it’s Common.

So classy, and he and John Legend’s performance of Glory was a moment not to be missed!

And finally, for a man in white.

British invasion! Benedict Cumberbatch looked every bit the part of a glamorous leading man in this white tuxedo jacket.

And because I love him, shout out to Eddie Redmayne in this stunning midnight blue tux with black lapel and classic bow tie.

It is okay to call a tux stunning?

Okay, good.

So, that’s a wrap after one spectacular awards season!

Just amazing… until next year…
