Week 5 Check-in | My Whole Food Life

I feel like I finally hit my stride somewhere in Week 4.

Maybe I’m a slow learner, or maybe my body is just slower to react than most, but Week 4 was where I summoned the strength within and I could picture this style of eating for the long term.

So, results. We are a results-based society, and I for one, am VERY motivated with tangible results.

So, at the end of 4- 4 1/2 weeks, I sort of lost track somewhere in there, I decided to step on the scale once again. I knew my pants were so loose that I didn’t even have to buckle the top of them to pull them on and off and I knew that most of my dresses now need to be taken up on the side seams, and so I wondered what the numbers would tell me.

And, in truth, I was astonished.

11 pounds.

I never even considered double digits. I would have jumped for joy for 7 or 8 pounds in a month, but 11?!? I could hear the Hallelujah chorus piping in my ears.

And so, due to my lack of disbelief and distrust, I hit Reset and hopped on the scale once again, just to be sure it wasn’t some error or fluke. And once again, 11 pounds.

I bounded down the hallways like a skipping schoolgirl to share the results with Mom.

I still cannot believe my results in this first month. Weight loss, more energy, less sleeplessness and insomnia, less anxious and nervous feelings, clearer skin, fewer skin irritations and itching, less bloating, and less allergic reactions. I mean- I have been off Zyrtec for over 2 weeks! I literally never thought that was possible!

So, what’s next?

My next blood tests and follow up doctor appointment are in 2 more weeks and we will “see where we are” and determine next steps, but here is what I know to be true and for my best self. This style of living, this style of eating really works for me and my body. I feel and look better than I have felt and looked in a very long time. And I am addicted to this feeling!

The doctor doesn’t even have to order to continue this style of eating and taking of these supplements, I think I would either way after the experiences I have had.

Does it mean I never have another chocolate fudge brownie again? Or another slice of hot, crusty, buttered toast? Or never visit Atlanta’s finest pizzeria, Antico’s?

{especially since my birthday is just a month away… you better believe I will enjoy a little cheat treat!}

Because I am not one to believe in deprivation. But, I do want to set a goal to eat like this 90-95% of the time.

Simple life changes make all the difference.One little step at a time. Always building on each other.

  • Drinking nothing but water at every meal, save the 1 cup of coffee with almond milk I enjoy each morning.
  • Cutting out all processed foods. Nothing from a bag or a box.
  • Shopping the perimeter of your supermarket loading up on proteins, fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, and nuts. Avoid the temptation of those center aisles full of crackers, cookies, and sugar-laden items.
  • Avoiding all the “whites.” White bread, white pasta, white rice, white potatoes, white flour, white sugar.
  • Replacing traditional starchy vegetables like potatoes, legumes, or rice/grains with salad, a green vegetable, or even fruit.

You will be surprised how every little decision, adds up to something really, really big.

So, here we go!!! One month down and another to go…

Home….Where my Heart lives.

So, the big news it out! … I am officially a home-owner!!!

{I am going to pause just one moment here… Look at my Mom, “proud as punch” … Me, with my mountain of signed closing documents and her graciously accepting purple tulips from our sweet Real Estate Agent. I told her with that leg popped out, she looks like she was accepting an award at a pageant.}

All joking aside, this was a precious, precious moment. And one of great relief, happiness, and gratitude that will stay with me for a long, long time.

I closed on this little beauty yesterday.

That title of “home-owner” is even crazier to type than it is to say out loud. I can hardly even believe it and am overjoyed, thrilled, excited, nervous, scared, timid, and amazed all at one time.

Know the feeling?!?

So, join me over these next several months (or years if I am being honest) as I share DIY projects, decorating tips, before-and-afters (of which there will be many), recipes to make, and parties to host all in my new home.

My own little slice of Georgian, townhouse heaven.

God is good!
