The sheep of HIS pasture

People often laugh when Mom and I take our semi-regular trips to Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. In fact, the last time my Uncle called Dad he ended the conversation with “So, when are the girls going back to Biltmore?” Dad chucked and probably gave an answer like “Soon. Real soon.”

It has become our own version of an inside joke.

We don’t care.

Biltmore for us is one of those few, special, wonderful places where we unwind both mentally and emotionally, where we are still, where we laugh, talk endlessly, and have more fun than we deserve. As soon as we drive onto the estate, I can literally feel my muscles relaxing. I know it sounds silly, but it’s true. For some that place is at the water’s edge on a beach somewhere (by the way, that does it for me too), for others it is sitting on a dock overlooking a calm, still lake, and for Mom and me it’s Biltmore. It’s in us, and it has become a sweet tradition for us each Spring, Fall, and Winter time.

With that being said, we made our sojourn a few weeks ago… hey- it’s only the 2nd trip of the 2013 year, but whose counting? 🙂  Anyways, we experienced something we have never seen on the estate. Hard to believe, I know.

The birth of the baby lambs on the Biltmore Farm.

They dotted the green hills and their sweet, shrill “baaaahhhhs” were so distinguishable that they drew us right around a corner to them. We counted close to 40 of them. What a sweet treat to spend the afternoon with them! We were the only humans around, and they didn’t seem to mind.

Look at them following their Mammas. It was so cute to watch them run behind. Those gangly little legs couldn’t quite keep up.

Sometimes I feel that way too…

“Know that the LORD, He is God! It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.”

Psalms 100:3

Have a happy Monday and a blessed start to your week!
